A pretty huge one!

I have no idea of what this flower is! Found it down the street during my evening walk…

Looked very pretty to me…

  1. This is sumac – it’s actually used as a seasoning in the middle east and is one of the ingredients found in zaatar (it gives the sour taste). Some also put it in boiling water to make a drink like lemonade.

I went to see if it was used anywhere in India and might have a Hindi word that describes it or the spice. Google and Shabdkosh said “एक प्रकार का पौधा” – Thanks, guys… “A type of plant.” Really helpful.

Anyway – if you have the chance and can make it to a middle eastern market, pick up some zaatar, mix with a little olive oil and try on some hot pita bread. It’s quite delicious.

        1. Yeah – easier to just get the berries at the market instead too. Also, I find that the variety that grows here in Ontario is a bit “furrier” than ones elsewhere I’ve been so not such a great texture. The flavour is much weaker than what we used to get in Missouri as well.
