Concrete in the way of nature… today’s reality!

October photo a day challenge – Rain

Rainy season is that time of the year, which brings all kinds of nostalgic memories, back to our mind and we delve into them, as if it was just yesterday… A friend of mine, posted the above picture recently and it sent me spiraling down the memory lane, leaving me in a state of rapture, flooding me, with childhood memories of a rainy day.

Life was so simple, in the good, old days of our childhood. We found joy in almost anything and everything around us. Be it chasing a butterfly or a dragonfly, to spotting a frog, snail or a rainbow in the sky! There was thrill and adventure in everything we did, even in the mundane routine of a walk to the school.

These walking trips to school were the most adventurous part of the day! And during the rainy season, there was an added element of fun. With nature at its best, tempting us to err at every step – be it a simple puddle, a flirting butterfly or a shower of rain!

The tempting hurdles on the way to school –

# Stopping to spot a croaking frog

# Spotting millipedes and earthworms

# Chasing dragonflies and butterflies

# Jumping across puddles and managing to reach school without getting wet.

# Admiring the fish in some puddles – without knowing that they actually were tadpoles.

# On the way back, actually stopping by the huge puddles and sailing paper boats in     them.

# At times, participating  in the’biggest splash competition’, ruining the shoes totally!

# Jumping across puddles, to reach home faster and accidentally falling into one! Slushy     and wet all over, right till the undies… Followed by the fear of facing mom!

# Soon confident, with a smart story line in mind – to escape mom’s wrath! Like             somebody pushed poor me and I was hurt badly…

# Last but not the least, was spotting a rainbow  and sharing the news with all around,         with a vivid description of the same.

No FB or Instagram in those days – but the joy of sharing thoughts, ideas and experiences did exist! No big expectations or demands, no if’s and but’s situation at home – but the joys of childhood were unlimited for sure.

So true are the words in this poem by William Wordsworth, something I learnt in my primary school – The Rainbow.

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
      Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

Hope you can relate with at least a few of my memories !!
Feel free to share your memories…
